Covid – 19
Due to Covid 19 we have suspended some of our services at this time to try and keep everyone safe. Please note that our dog or puppy assessments are currently being carried out in the garden (After going on a short walk) rather than in the house as previously, you will still be welcome to have a drink if you would like one. As you would expect we have wipes for our canine guests and hand gel for you! There have been several changes as to how we can love and care for our wonderful guests during Covid-19 as a result of DEFRA guidelines, if we are all happy following an assessment and we agree to add your dog(s) to our client list then we will of course advise you of the current guidelines for your dog(s) during their holiday.
Buckinghamshire Council –
DEFRA Licence Regulations.
Since October 2018 a new Licensing Act that deals with many animals has come into force across the whole of England and Wales. it is now a legal requirement that all animal related
businesses/activities including but not limited to animal boarding, animal home boarding, dog & puppy Day Care, animal breeding, selling animal as pets, performing
animals, equine, hiring out horses now need to be licensed under the Animal Activities Act 2018. The new legislation will also rate business on a Star Rating system from 1 to 5 stars. Puppy Dog Hotel has been awarded the highest possible FIVE STAR rating by Buckinghamshire Council - DEFRA under this act for providing a loving, safe and stimulating home for our canine guests. This is supplemented by over thirty five years of knowledge and experience.
Owners responsibility
Under Animal Activities Act 2018 the animals owner may be committing a criminal offence if they leave their pet with a business that is not suitably licensed under the act.
This will carry much stronger penalties for both owners and those offering these services who are not licensed and not adhering to the new legislation.
To read the full regulations covering all animals click here.
If you have any concerns about individuals offering these services that do not appear to have a license, please contact Buckinghamshire Council Licensing Department in complete confidence. You can also check if a business is licensed, how many dogs they are allowed to board (Overnight) and what star rating they have.
It is also expected that during 2022 any person offering ‘Dog Walking Services’ will also need to be licensed under this act and the number of dogs that may be walked at any one time will be regulated.
Puppy Dog Hotel has some helpful tips on ‘What to look for’ on our Q&A page when looking to leave your dog or puppy with someone to love and care for them. Reading it may save you and your dog/puppy distress in the future. To go to our Q&A page please CLICK HERE
Please help protect our pets. Report any person or business that you think are offering overnight boarding or dog day care that may not be licensed. Thank you.
Charities
Puppy Dog Hotel donates to the following charities on an ongoing monthly basis: Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Dogs for Good (Formerly Dogs for the Disabled), Dogs Trust, UK Border Collie Rescue, Lake District Search and Rescue Dogs, PDSA (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals). We also offer our help and services to these charities and have never charged a penny. If you can help in anyway (Whether donating or volunteering) please do, even small tokens can make a huge difference. Most of these charities operate often without any government funding or thanks, we think they all do a marvelous job. Puppy Dog Hotel also have collection boxes for both Dogs Trust and Dogs for Good so please feel free to drop a few pennies in whilst visiting for your assessment or dropping off/collecting your dog or puppy. Remember that sadly not all dogs or puppies are as fortunate as the lovely guests we get to love and care for. Please take a moment to visit our charity Page.
